Opponents say it’s unfair. Supporters say small businesses need it.
A bill that will allow businesses to pay teen-agers a dollar less than the minimum wage has advanced to the final round of debate in the Nebraska legislature.
Senator Burke Harr of Omaha makes light of the claim by supporters that small, “mom and pop” stores need the break. . .
But Senator Al Davis of Hyannis tells Harr those types of stores do exist…in his district…and one of them told him the increase in the state minimum wage will cost him 15-Thousand dollars a year. . .
Though supporters have overcome a filibuster against the measure, it is uncertain whether they have the needed votes to pass the measure.
