Fazle Hasan Abed from Bangladesh is being honored tonight in Des Moines, Iowa as the 2015 winner of the World Food Prize. Abed is being recognized for improving people’s lives, alleviating hunger and providing pathways out of poverty. 2013 World Food Prize winner, Robb Fraley, Vice President and Chief Technical Officer for Monsanto says Abed has helped put in systems to educate farmers in Bangladesh.
Fraley says Bangladesh is one of the first countries to adopt biotechnology in helping alleviate hunger and meeting its people’s food needs.
Along with the honor of the World Food Prize, Abed will be receiving a cash grant of $ 250,000. Fraley, the 2013 recipient was recognized for his work with two colleagues in developing the first biotech crops including round up ready soybeans and yield guard corn.
