South Dakota Farm Bureau members are gathering in Sioux Falls Friday and Saturday for their 100th annual convention. President Scott VanderWal says they’ll be hammering out a number of state and national policy issues. He says at the state level, wetland rules and non meandered waters tops their list.
He says at the national level, they’ll be weighing in on the new farm bill. VanderWal says their members want wetland regulations addressed their as well as a tweaking of the ARC and PLC programs.
VanderWal says they’re also keeping a close eye on what Congress does with tax reform. He says it’s critical the House and Senate comes together on a workable plan that simplifies the tax code and provides needed relief.
He says they also have a number of speakers at their event including Economics Professor Matt Roberts, SDSU President Dr. Barry Dunn, Cybersecurity Expert Mark Lanterman and newly appointed Farm Service Agency State Director Paul Shubeck.
