Friday, the USDA suspended the import of all fresh beef from Brazil due to food safety concerns. The action came after Brazil had self suspended shipments of beef from five of their processing plants after irregularities showed up in their beef. United States Cattlemen’s Association President Kenny Graner who ranches in North Dakota says this has been his group’s concern since Brazil beef imports began.
He says the ban should remain in place until Brazil can ensure their beef is safe and free of foot and mouth or any other diseases.
Graner says Brazil has had continual problems with foot and mouth disease and still hasn’t proven they can control it.
USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service has refused entry to Brazilian beef products due to public health concerns, sanitary conditions and animal health issues.
