Transportation Official Says Highway Bill Needs Passing

The Highway Trust Fund could run out of money by sometime in July and reauthorization of the highway bill is due by October 1 as it expires the end of September. Soy Transportation Coalition Executive Director Mike Steenhoek says it’s an important measure for agriculture and several other industries. He says a House GOP plan to save $10.7 billion over ten years from cutting postal service isn’t the answer to funding the legislation.
Steenhoek says leaders from both parties need to come together and make the tough decisions it takes to push forward a reliable and useful highway bill.
Steenhoek isn’t the only one who doesn’t think the House GOP funding plan will work. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx calls it a gimmick and says a long term strategy is needed for the nation’s roads and bridges.
