Former Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue, President Trump’s nominee to head the USDA appeared at a Senate confirmation hearing Thursday. South Dakota Senator John Thune asked Perdue if he thinks the Ag Department should impose an outright shutdown of Brazil meat imports if tainted product is found.
Perdue says U.S. inspectors need to be on the job to make sure any food product coming into the United States is safe.
Senator Thune also received Perdue’s commitment to work with him on the current and future farm bills, national forest management and ensuring there is a strong renewable fuel standard.
