Survey Says U.S. Should Receive New Tariffs for Pulling Out of NAFTA

Survey Says U.S. Should Receive New Tariffs for Pulling Out of NAFTA

Nearly 50 percent of Canadians polled in a recent survey say they support putting new tariffs on United States goods if the U.S. pulls out of the North American Free Trade Agreement. Canadian Cattlemen’s Association’s Director of Government and International Relations John Masswohl finds that disturbing.

He says NAFTA has been a good agreement for not only Canada, but for the United States and Mexico.

Masswohl is not concerned about President-elect Trump saying he wants to redo NAFTA. He says doing that could be beneficial for all three countries.

That Canadian study also showed that 60 percent of those polled believe if Trump pulls the U.S. out of NAFTA, Canada would be unlikely to negotiate a better trade deal with the United States.
