The US Justice Department has notified the State of South Dakota of possible violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act due to lack of community services.
The federal report found that many disabled people are in nursing homes, rather than receiving services in their homes or communities.

Representative Jean Hunhoff of Yankton, a member of the Appropriations Committee, says much of that is driven by our low population and geography……

Hunhoff says many care providers have a difficult time finding people to work there…..

Hunhoff, who is also a registered nurse, says fixing the issues are a matter of policy and funding…..

Hunhoff says a legislative summer study committee will look at the challenges of adequate funding for health care providers.
