Senator Weighs In On Transition Team Meeting With Bayer And Monsanto

Recently the President and his transition team met with Bayer and Monsanto officials. Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley says there’s nothing to the rumors that a deal was struck that Bayer would invest $8 billion in research and development in exchange for approval of their merger with Monsanto.

He says what likely came out of the meeting was a warning to Bayer and Monsanto not to allow jobs to leave the U.S.

Grassley is hoping that the message was given to Bayer and Monsanto officials that U.S. antitrust laws will be enforced.

The Bayer Monsanto merger still needs regulatory approval from the U.S. Justice Department’s antitrust division and the European Union’s regulatory commission.
