After an investigation, the US Justice Department is reporting that the State of South Dakota may be violating the Americans with Disabilities Act by placing disabled people in nursing homes. Part of that may be related to the moratorium on new nursing home beds that was imposed in the 1990s.
Representative Jean Hunhoff of Yankton says there were valid reasons for the action at the time……

A summer study committee of the legislature will look at that issues. Hunhoff says there may be room for the private sector to add to those limited nursing home beds…..

Hunhoff says the issue comes back to finding the funding for Medicaid patients…..

Hunhoff says rural providers have a very difficult time finding enough workers to provide adequate care.
