SD Medicaid Expansion Talks Continue

South Dakota Governor Dennis Daugaard says he will not call a special session of the legislature this summer to talk about expanding Medicaid. He said there wasn’t enough legislative support to move ahead now.
Lieutenant Governor Matt Michels says it isn’t a dead issue quite yet. He says they are continuing to gather more information…..

Michels says there may be some changes possible after the November election……

The expansion would have included funding from the Indian Health Service for native American care. Michels says that need is not going away…..

Supporters say the state is missing out on hundreds of millions of dollars to improve health care. Opponents say the federal government can’t be trusted to hold up their end of the financial deal.
