Spink County Commissioners have drafted a letter to the state, saying four of their five members oppose the deep hole project proposed for their county. The Department of Energy is providing grants for the project.

The Energy Department wants to know if deep rock formations would be suitable for possible storage of nuclear waste.
Daugaard says that would not be the goal of the Spink County project….

Project organizers have not yet made formal applications for the deep bore hole.
