A working group, called “The Health Care Solutions Coalition” was put together by South Dakota Governor Dennis Daugaard to look at how expanding Medicaid coverage in the state could be in part, funded by the Indian Health Service.
Daugaard says he would like some decisions on a possible agreement fairly soon…………

Daugaard met with officials from the Department of Health and Human Services and Indian Health Service in Washington. He says the state, over many years, has been picking up millions of dollars in care for Native Americans that should be paid by the Indian Health Service…………

Daugaard says he still has philosophical issues with expanding Medicaid and the role of the federal government, but there are people in the state that need help………

The coalition is made up of state officials, legislators, tribal officers and public and private health care providers.
