Sources says the Trump administration is considering limits on trading biofuel credits. The goal is to discourage speculation and reduce costs for oil refiners to comply with U.S. biofuels policy. Renewable Fuels Association Executive Vice President Geoff Cooper says at this point, that’s just speculation, but his group is monitoring the situation.
He says it’s possible improvements could be made to the RINs market. However the details have yet to come out.
Cooper says his group doesn’t want to see restrictions on how RINs are traded.
Earlier the Trump administration had been considering giving the ethanol industry year-round use of E15, in return for a RINs adjustments. Cooper says his group’s priority remains lifting of the Reid Vapor Pressure rule to allow E15 to be sold in the summer months.
