RFA President Says There’s No Ethanol Fraud In RINS Program

A report out by a former EPA official says that the RINS market or renewable identification numbers may be ripe for fraud or abuse. In order to comply with the RFS, refiners are required to blend a percentage of their fuel into renewable fuels and then receive RINS credits. Renewable Fuel Association President Bob Dinneen says there hasn’t been any fraud in the ethanol market regarding RINS and the recent report needed to spell that out but didn’t.

He says the report’s findings shed bad light on the Renewable Fuel Standard and the RINS program which isn’t warranted.

Dinneen says the EPA official’s report joins a long list of efforts by the oil industry to try and pull back or repeal the RFS.

The report was commissioned by Valero Energy. The company is both a petroleum refiner and ethanol producer.
