The Environmental Protection Agency has granted RFS waivers for 3 of Andeavor’s refineries, 2 in North Dakota and one in Utah. Renewable Fuels Association President and CEO Bob Dinneen says that’s an outrageous abuse of the law and is lessening demand for renewable fuels.
He says there could be more than a billion gallons of renewable fuel demand decreased by the EPA’s exemptions, but the actual number isn’t available.
Dinneen says in November of 2017, the EPA put out a final rule that said 15 billion gallons of ethanol needed to be blended under the RFS for 2018. He says now they’re lessening that demand.
Dinneen says any claims that the RFS is negatively impacting the oil industry are absurd, much less, Andeavor, the fifth largest refiner in the United States which posted a profit of $1.5billion last year.
