President Trump’s threats to withdraw from the North American Free Trade Agreement are putting transportation jobs at risk. Thousands of jobs along the Mississippi River could be lost if the U.S. stops shipping agriculture products to Mexico. Soy Transportation Coalition Executive Director Mike Steenhoek says he heard the reaction to those threats on a recent visit to a Mexican port.

He says disruptions to trade agreements hurt markets and commodity prices.

Steenhoek says it’s critical to preserve NAFTA. He says even though there could be improvements made to it or any trade deal, NAFTA has worked well for the U.S., Mexico and Canada.

Steenhoek says withdrawal threats make the prospect of losing market share a reality.
