Not Everyone Loves Trans Pacific Partnership Deal

Trans Pacific Partnership negotiators including U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman say they’re close to finalizing an agreement between the 12 nations in the trade pact. Coalition for a Prosperous America CEO Michael Stumo says it’s impossible for the U.S. to achieve market access with Japan and others unless the currency manipulation problem is addressed.

Stumo says there is no way for the United States or its farmers and ranchers to benefit from the TPP. He also says most of the gross domestic product talked about in the agreement comes from the U.S. and not the other nations involved in the talks.

Stumo says for the U.S. to benefit from the TPP, the whole strategy needs to be reconfigured so the U.S. achieves a balanced trade deal and is not operating from a trade deficit.
