A civil engineering professor from Brigham Young University says the sediment problem in Lewis & Clark Lake is the worst in the country.
Rollin Hotchkiss says while the lake is relatively small, the impact of sediment is large…..

Hotchkiss spoke at a meeting of the “Missouri Sediment Action Coalition” in Yankton.
He says there are solutions to the sediment problem….https://soundcloud.com/wnax-radio/rollin-hotchkiss-802b

Hotchkiss says other solutions like pumping sediment around Gavins Point Dam, or dredging the delta are not realistic.
He says the sediment situation can teach some future lessons……

Hotchkiss says he has studied the problem and found the Niobrara River, which flows into the river near Springfield, contributes about two thousand tons of sand every day.
