Several Farm groups including the National Farmers Union are hoping to convince lawmakers and the new President to enhance ag trade opportunities with Cuba. National Farmers Union’s Senior Vice President of Public Policy Rob Larew says while removing the trade embargo is a heavy lift there are many other opportunities to normalize trade.

He says they are concerned one of President Trump’s treasury department transition team members heads up a group that’s opposed lifting the trade embargo.

Larew says enhancing trade with Cuba involves several components and they’re hoping to convince Trump to approve many of those.

Larew says he is encouraged that the anti Cuban trade transition team member recently testified in front of the House Agriculture Committee telling them President Trump wants to move ahead on agricultural trade.
