The new president of the Iowa Pork Producers Association plans to focus on trade and environmental issues during his tenure. Clarinda, Iowa pork producer Curtis Meier says Friday’s decision by the Iowa Supreme Court in favor of ten drainage districts in northwest Iowa is a big win for agriculture. The court ruled against the Des Moines Water Works and determined the drainage districts can’t be ordered to cover the costs of removing nitrates from rivers that are their source of drinking water.
Meier says besides environmental issues, IPPA wants to focus on sound bilateral trade agreements.
He’s also excited the pork industry is moving forward with two new pork processing facilities in Iowa in Wright County and Sioux City.
Meier is now serving his second term as Iowa Pork President after first being elected in 2003. He replaces Al Wulfekuhle, who was President during 2016.
