The Nebraska Revenue Forecasting Board has added $55 million to the state’s budget, which will help with the overall tax picture for agriculture in the state. Nebraska Cattlemen Association Vice President of Legislative Affairs Laura Field says the report is positive and half the money will go into this year’s budget and the other half into 2019.
She says for agriculture that’ll mean less strenuous discussions regarding their priority of getting property tax relief and ensuring important programs to agriculture are maintained.
Field is hoping lawmakers will agree to meaningful property tax relief although nothing has moved just yet, there are three measures under consideration.
Field says the hope is that legislators will approve a property tax relief measure by April that will at least escalate relief in the next few years.
