More than 70 organizations including the National Corn Growers Association is hailing the Senate passage of the Trade Promotion Authority Legislation. Senators voted 63 to 37 approving fast track trade negotiating authority for the President and sent it over to the House. South Dakota Corn Grower’s President Keith Alverson is hoping that getting that wide a margin of support in the Senate will bode well when the House considers the measure.

Alverson says they’ll have to overcome some resistance in the House with the TPA legislation but he’s positive about its chances.

Alverson says TPA needs to be approved in order to advance important trade agreements such as the Trans Pacific Partnership and Trans Atlantic Trade and Investment Partnership which are critical for U.S. exports.
