Legislation Needed Following Oil Pipeline Leak in Northeast South Dakota

A state Senator who inspected a crude oil pipeline leak in his district says he will bring enhanced legislation to next year’s session.
Senator Jason Frerichs of Wilmot toured the spill site near Amherst, in Marshall County………

The Keystone pipeline cracked, spilling an estimated five thousand barrels of oil.
Frerichs says the state doesn’t have any funds on hand to deal with potential spills…..

Frerichs says because it is an international pipeline, Trans Canada doesn’t pay into any reclamation fund……

Trans Canada has said it will completely clean up the site, and restore the top soil that was disturbed.
