Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley is asking the Treasury Secretary along with the USDA and FDA to review the purchase of Syngenta by ChemChina. He says he is concerned about national security if the purchase is allowed to go through.

He says there are other problems with ChemChina’s purchase of Syngenta including their ability to control key agronomic technology.

Grassley says he’s also concerned bout the shrinking number of seed companies able to serve farmers due to recent consolidations.

Grassley also pointed to the Chinese government’s desire to acquire agricultural company assets in the United States to get better food production technologies.
