Restrictions have been loosened for U.S. trade with Cuba. President Obama last month announced changes to Cuban policy and those changes are moving forward. South Dakota Farmers Union President Doug Sombke says Cuba is a potential lucrative market for many of the ag commodities produced in the upper Midwest. He says it will also help other industries.
Sombke says livestock producers are set to well to supply Cuba with its food needs.
Sombke is also hoping South Dakota State officials will move forward in the near future with a trade mission to Cuba.
Obama administration officials say they firmly believe that by allowing increased travel, commerce and the flow of information to and from Cuba it will allow the United States to better advance our interests and improve the lives of Cubans.
