Ethanol Officials Encouraged With Bill to Allow E15 Year Round

Nebraska Senator Deb Fischer has worked out a compromise that’s led to a path forward for advancing legislation to allow year-round use of E15. Fischer and other Senators agreed to reject the Obama era methane rule and teamed with Senate Environment and Public Works Chairman John Barrasso to bring the E15 measure to the committee for markup. Nebraska Ethanol Board Administrator Todd Sneller says that’s very positive for his industry.

Markup on the legislation is expected within the next week or so. Sneller says that timing is important because the Reid Vapor Pressure rule doesn’t allow E15 during the summer and retailers need to make signage decisions soon.

He says once the E15 legislation is passed it will mean a higher blend choice for consumers and help encourage retailers to sell the fuel.

EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt says his agency is also reviewing the Reid Vapor Pressure law to see if they have the authority to grant a waiver for year-round E15 sales.
