Pennsylvania Senator Pat Toomey says that U.S. biofuel policy must be fixed. He’s referring to the Renewable Fuel Standard. Toomey says it’s the main cause of a Pennsylvania refiner filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Nebraska Ethanol Board Administrator Todd Sneller says that’s a poor excuse for dismantling a standard that’s benefitted the economy and provided lower cost fuel for consumers as well as a better environmental impact.
He says the RFS is the wrong place to change any policy that’s concerning for the oil and gas industry, that it’s better placed with possible regulatory changes if considered at all.
Sneller says it’s also a bad time to look at unraveling the RFS as it has benefitted agriculture., especially at a time the ag economy is under severe strain.
Recently Senator Toomey joined Texas Senator Ted Cruz in lobbying President Trump for changes to the RFS.
