EPA Vehicle Emission Models Unreliable

EPA Vehicle Emission Models Unreliable

A new study commissioned by the Renewable Fuels Association shows that the vehicle emissions model used by the EPA is unreliable.  RFA Senior Vice President Geoff Cooper says the motor vehicle emissions simulator model doesn’t show the proper emissions created by ethanol and biofuels.

He says a number of other studies prove that ethanol reduces vehicle emissions, particulate matter and carbon.

Cooper says there are serious consequences because MOVES or the motor vehicle emissions simulator is used by state regulators to demonstrate compliance with federal air standards. He says the EPA needs to get rid of MOVES and replace it with a more reliable model.

The MOVES study evaluation was done by scientists from Wyle Laboratories and Volpe  which is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation.
