Crop Life America Wants Court To Reconsider Chlorpyrifos Ruling

Crop Life America Wants Court To Reconsider Chlorpyrifos Ruling

Crop Life America officials are deeply concerned over the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals decision that ordered the Environmental Protection Agency to cancel the registration of Chlorpyrifos, the main ingredient used in Lorsban. Crop Life President and CEO Jay Vroom says the court decision sets a dangerous precedent for the use of all chemicals that have been deemed to be safe and received regulatory clearance.

He says the court ruling was based not on good science but on what’s known as soft science.

Vroom says the court of appeals ruling was an abrupt one that skipped past the normal process. He says their next step is to seek reconsideration of the matter at the ninth circuit court of appeals.

Vroom says if they can’t get the appeals court to reconsider the issue they’ll have to appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court.
