South Dakota State Senator Lance Russell of Hot Springs has introduced a state level country of origin labeling bill. South Dakota Stock Grower’s Association Executive Director Silvia Christen says they support the measure, which will mandate that labels be put on beef products sold in the state.

She says, however, there are no punitive provisions included in the labeling legislation.

Christen says even though mandatory COOL was overturned by Congress at the national level, they’re backing this state measure because it’s what consumers want.

Christen expects Senate Bill 135 to be heard by the legislature by the end of this week.
