National Corn Grower Association members are concerned with the recent volume proposal put out by the Environmental Protection Agency for the Renewable Fuel Standard. NCGA leaders say with their proposal, the EPA has cut 3.75 billion gallons of corn ethanol from the nation’s fuel supply from 2014 to 2016. South Dakota Corn Grower’s President Keith Alverson, who serves on the NCGA Board says that could take a large amount of corn off the market.
Alverson says NCGA is considering a possible legal remedy to the proposal issue because EPA’s plan is below the statutory requirements of the RFS.
Alverson says while another option may be looking for a legislative remedy, they’ll first try to work with EPA to change the proposal.
EPA must finalize their volume proposal by November 30th and will take public comment up until June 27.
