Last week National Corn Growers Association members gathered in Washington D.C. for their annual Corn Congress. NCGA Board member and South Dakota grower Keith Alverson says their top issues were concerns over corn demand and the impacts of RFS waivers, the trade war and the new farm bill. He says USDA is projecting another near record crop and demand has been hurt by RFS waivers and tariffs.
He says there are concerns about how much damage retaliatory tariffs will cause to U.S. agriculture and how long the trade war will last.
Alverson says Corn Congress attendees are pleased the House has sent their farm bill to conference and they’re looking forward to the Senate following suit.
Alverson says they hope to work with the conferees as they craft a final package.
