Cell Tower on School Property

The Yankton School Board is considering a land lease agreement with SBA Communications Corporation that involves a cell tower on Yankton Middle School property. The agreement was discussed at the board’s meeting on Monday, and the City Commission held a preliminary hearing to grant a conditional use permit for the erection of the cell tower. Yankton School District’s business manager, Jason Bietz, presented the current plan for the lease agreement.

The tower would be designed not only to provide Verizon service, but would also serve as a flag pole. A final decision has not been made, but is still in consideration as hearings continue for the necessary permits.
