A near record corn crop in the U.S. and a record crop in Nebraska is good news for the ethanol industry. USDA recently projected U.S. corn yields at 168 bushels per acre, the second highest average yield on record, with record yields in Nebraska at 184 bushels per acre. Nebraska Ethanol Board Administrator Todd Sneller says that bodes well for ethanol plants and corn farmers.
Sneller says near record corn production in the U.S. provides a solid argument for the ethanol industry being able to meet the statutory requirements of the Renewable Fuel Standard. He says the EPA needs to keep that in mind when they release the volume levels next month.
He says USDA’s infrastructure grant program, which is currently in 21 states, is another reason for the EPA to get raise the RFS volume levels.
Sneller says ethanol proponents are continuing to fight for stronger RFS volumes and have been meeting with administration officials to make their case.
