Brashears Tapped for Top Food Safety Job at USDA

President Donald Trump is tapping Texas Tech Professor Dr. Mindy Brashears as the next USDA Under Secretary for Food Safety. National Cattlemen’s Beef Association Vice President of Government Affairs Colin Woodall says she’s an excellent choice for that job.

He says Brashears has a great understanding of the beef industry, which will help her if she’s confirmed.

Woodall says one of Brashear’s first challenges will be just getting through the nomination process which could take some time given past confirmation hearings.

Woodall says one of the first things Brashears will likely work on is a review of the overall beef inspection process. Last year Brashears was called as an expert witness for Beef Products Inc, helping the Dakota City company negotiate a multi-million dollar settlement from ABC News.
