South Dakota State University running back Zach Zenner has been named Missouri Valley Football Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
The record setting back helped lead the Jackrabbits to a 44-18 victory over visiting Cal Poly Saturday night.
A senior from Eagan, Minnesota, Zenner carried the ball 30 times for 193 yards and a touchdown in the Jackrabbits’ home opener. Zenner also became the Missouri Valley Football Conference’s career rushing leader in the game, upping his career total to 4,825, passing the previous record of 4,746 yards set by Western Illinois’ Herb Donaldson from 2005-08.
Zenner topped the 100-yard mark for the 23rd time in his career in Saturday’s game.
The Jackrabbits, 1-1 overall, play Sept. 13 at Southern Utah in a matchup between 2013 Football Championship Subdivision playoff teams.
