Junior Kerri Young was named the College Sports Madness Summit League Mid-Major Player of the Week after helping the South Dakota State women’s basketball team to a 2-1 week at the Paradise Jam in the Virgin Islands.

 

The guard averaged 15 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.3 assists while shooting 48.3 percent from the field, 57.8 percent from 3-point range and 62.5 percent from the free-throw line.

 

In a 55-54 win over Pittsburgh Nov. 26, Young had a game-high 15 points and 3 assists. Against No. 6 Maryland Nov. 27, she recorded seven points, five rebound and four assists, and a block. In the final game, the Paradise Jam All-Tournament team selection posted career-highs of 24 points and 7 3-pointers.

 

Young earned her first career Summit League Player of the Week honor Nov. 16.

 

South Dakota State begins a three-game homestand Thursday when it hosts Portland State at 7 p.m. in the friendly confines of Frost Arena.
