The University of South Dakota track and field teams won seven events and broke three school records at the Jim Emmerich Alumni Invitational in Brookings.

Senior Cody Snyder started the meet on Friday night with a victory in the men’s indoor discus. His toss of 189 feet, 9 inches is more than two feet further than his outdoor discus school record from 2013. Sophomore teammate Dustin Valind finished runner-up to Snyder with a throw of 162-02.

Snyder returned Saturday to tie for first in the shot put with senior Kyle McKelvey. The senior duo each threw 59-11 ¾, a mark that ties Snyder’s school and state record from a year ago. The mark leads the Summit League by more than two feet and ranks 22nd in NCAA Division I.

The women’s indoor shot put school record was also broken on Saturday. Sophomore Danielle Waldner’s winning throw of 50-11 broke the previous record of 48-0 set by Amanda Muller in 2003. Waldner currently leads the Summit League in the event.

Junior Katie Wetzstein shaved .15 seconds off her school-record time from a week ago to win the women’s mile in 4:51.99. Wetzstein led a pack of five Coyotes under 5 minutes, 10 seconds. Junior teammate Amber Eichkorn took third in the event at 4:58.70.

Wetzstein captured her second win of the meet when she clocked a time of 9:55.50 in the 3,000-meter run. Freshman Bethany Kozak and Eichkorn finished third and fourth, respectively, at 10:02.

The hurdle duo of junior Teivaskie Lewin and senior Erik Hill placed first and third, respectively, in the 60 hurdles. Lewin clocked in at 7.98 seconds and Hill followed in 8.38.

Sophomore Mach Dojiok rounded out the Coyotes’ event winners with a victory in the 600-meter run in 1:22.00.
