Yankton Sioux Tribe Asking Legislators for Help with Flooding Issues

Representatives from the Yankton Sioux Tribe appeared before the State – Tribal Relations committee of the South Dakota legislature last week, asking for help with ongoing flooding in and around Lake Andes.

Tribal Vice Chairman Jason Cooke says the lake outlet is plugged and no one seems to know how to fix it…

Tribal Treasurer Ken Cook says they have been struggling with this since early spring…

Cook says the problems are spreading….

The state Department of Transportation raised Highways 18 & 281 twice this year to get them out of the water, but that has pushed flooding into other parts of the Lake Andes area.
