A bill reopening a number of lakes in South Dakota passed through a special session of the legislature this week. One of the two “No” votes in the Senate came from Senator Craig Kennedy of Yankton. He says the bill didn’t address the main issue….
About thirty lakes that had flooded onto private land had been closed following a state Supreme Court decision.
Kennedy says he believes the law gives away too much control over public waters…..
Kennedy says much of the debate was over the sunset clause, which was moved to June of next year…..
The bill became law when Governor Dennis Daugaard signed it Monday night.
