The South Dakota legislature raised the state sales tax a half cent this year to fund increased pay for teachers. The Department of Education has been holding meetings around the state, explaining the new funding formula to school district officials.
Yankton School Superintendent Dr. Wayne Kindle says they are working with those details…..
Kindle says the new money will be part of contract negotiations with the district’s teachers…..
Kindle had been concerned with the possible loss of “other revenue” that the district receives from the truck weigh station, electric facilities and other sources. He says that money will stay in place….
The district has been receiving about one million dollars a year in that other revenue.
