The Yankton School Board has voted to sanction soccer, joining most of the larger schools across the state. The board delayed the issue from last month, then brought it back for action last (Monday) night.

Wes Chambers of the Yankton Youth Soccer Association said it was the only course for high school players…

Jeff Wolfgram with the soccer association said they would help fund the transition…

Board member Jay Williams said with the budget deficit the district is facing, he could not support adding another program…

The board approved the program on a four to one vote. Varsity and junior varsity competition will begin this fall, with a ten game schedule.
