An apartment fire on North Douglas Avenue in Yankton caused damage to one unit, and a short evacuation.
Assistant Fire Chief Larry Nickles says they got called just before 3pm yesterday…..

Nickles says the alarm system in the building alerted all the residents….

Volunteers with the American Red Cross also responded to the apartment fire, providing assistance for a family displaced.
The apartment unit has major damage and is not inhabitable for the next several days. Red Cross volunteers are providing financial assistance for immediate needs for one adult and four children impacted. This financial assistance can provide lodging, clothing, food or other items needed.
