A rural Yankton County man has died in a grain bin accident.
The Yankton County Sheriff’s Office says emergency units were called to a farm northwest of Mayfield about 9:25 this morning. 22 year old Aaron Engen of rural Irene had entered a corn bin to assist in loading the corn into a truck. A large amount of corn shifted, covering Engen. Immediate attempts to free him failed. First responders recovered Engens body after cutting the bin open and removing most of the grain. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Yankton Assistant Fire Chief Larry Nickles said it took quite a while to get to Engen……….
Nickles says they did work with some grain tubes in an effort to get to Engen………….
Other agencies at the scene included Irene first responders and Irene Fire Department and Yankton County Emergency Management.
