The Yankton County Commission declined an offer from the state Department of Transportation to take over maintenance of two sections of state highway.
The state had offered the county about one point three million dollars to take over the sections of Highways 153 and 314.
Commission Chairman Todd Woods says the money sounds good up front…..

Woods says they will continue to talk to the state department about those roads…..

Woods says they would like to see the state take the lead on a replacement bridge over the James River on old Highway 50……

The commission last week passed new taxes and fees in an effort to raise more money for road work.
