Yankton County Commission to Reach Out to Unhappy Townships

While it wasn’t on the agenda for the Yankton County Commission this week, the potential loss of four townships was on the minds of commissioners.

A meeting in Irene last Saturday started talk that residents in the four townships in the northeast part of the county could start a petition drive to either join Turner County or form their own county.

New Commission Chair Cheri Loest says she hasn’t talked directly yet to anyone connected to the townships…

Loest says she wants to hear from the people pushing the possible petition drive…

Issues driving the process include livestock zoning and road maintenance.
