Yankton County Commission to Consider Higher Fees & Taxes for Road Repair

The Yankton County Commission heard from their road and bridge task force this week. The group was set up to look at funding alternatives after a property tax opt out failed last fall.
The task force has recommended some options. One would raise the wheel tax by a dollar, and increase property taxes by thirty cents per thousand. The other option would increase property taxes by sixty cents per thousand.
Commission Chairman Todd Woods says the task force looked at all options….

Woods says he hopes an education campaign will convince county residents to support the plan….

Woods says their highway budget is very thin right now…..

The two options would raise between eight hundred thousand and one million dollars. Either plan would have a five year sunset attached.
