While not taking an official vote, Yankton County Commissioners came to a consensus this week of giving county employees a five percent raise in next year’s budget.

Commissioner Cheri Loest says she talked to the State Auditor’s Office this week and heard about counties raising their budgets to keep their employees….

Loest says going to an opt out would be challenging…….

During the discussion, commissioners batted around raises from four to ten percent. Commissioner Wanda Howey Fox says they can only go so far….

The commission continues to work on budget details and will have the final plan in place by late summer.
