The Yankton County Commission voted last week to opt out of property tax limits and ask for an increase of forty-five cents per thousand dollars of valuation. That is to meet the need for road and bridge work in the county. Commissioners also voted to increase the wheel tax to five dollars per wheel, and extend that up to twelve wheels per vehicle.
Commission Chairman Todd Woods says counties are not going to see any more money from the state…..
Woods says he hopes voters in the county accept the increases as necessary to keep up with road work……
The new taxes and fees would raise just under eight hundred thousand dollars a year.
